“You reap what you sow.” – Galatians 6:7

“Life has its ups and downs.” – Debasish Mridha, Author, Philosopher, and Physician

“[It’s] karma. You get what you give, whether it’s bad or good.” – Sandra Bullock, Actress and Producer

Life is often attributed to having a cyclical quality and, simply put, this design aims to represent such universal truth.

  • Black and white filter: conveys the components of life using typical colour associations – the bad (black), the good (white), and everything in between (grey)
  • Text positioning: under the photo’s light source, symbolises that the quote is an underlying truth of life
  • Font type: Snell Roundhand in cursive and italics, illustrates the way the concept is so embedded in our day-to-day lives that it sometimes exists in finer print
  • Text alignment: centred to align the two “around” within the quote, emphasises the existence of a cycle(s) in life and the theme of recurrence

Design: The Best Journeys…

The Best Journeys...

>> Insights To Artistic Decisions

This is one of those designs that speaks for itself. Essentially, I’m making a statement about embarking on journeys, whether it’s physical journeys where you visit, for example, another country, mental journeys of overcoming fears, or even the bigger picture of experiencing life as one long journey.

  • Font type and text alignment: Consolas as font type and text aligned to the left, mimics the way dates appear on photographs taken using older cameras and taking photos is often associated with going on journeys and travelling in general
  • Black and white filter: symbolises the components of a journey using common colour associations – the bad (black), the good (white), and everything in between (grey)
  • Enjambment between “yet” and “open-ended”: physical representation of open-endedness and unexpectedness
  • Font colour: white, purely for visibility and to follow through on the black and white color scheme

Design: Breathe & Blossom

Breathe & Blossom

>> Insights To Artistic Decisions

Through this digital design, I hope to grow and/or nurture one’s determination to keep him/herself centred and focused. Concurrently, the design also suggests that this determination must be counter-balanced by a go with the flow mentality, so that one will not solely force his/her own ideas and subsequently feel defeated when life doesn’t go as planned. The idea is to use this design as a reminder by setting it as either a physical poster, desktop background, or anything else that is seen on a daily basis.

  • Centred writing: symbolises concept of centring oneself and coming back to one’s core
  • Font colour: black represents conviction
  • Cursive font type: Sign Painter font type reflects a go with the flow mentality
